If you arent, youre destined to be unhappy.3. Getting caught in a negativity cycle.Everyone complains sometimesits practically necessary to let off steam. But if you find yourself constantly complaining about things you either cant control or wont fix, it can make everyday seem worse. Rather than continuously bringing what bothers you to the forefront, try to focus on implementing the positive changes that you can make. Saving all of your fun for the weekend. If you spend every week waiting for the weekend because thats w hen youve planned all of your fun activities, youre naturally going to wish Monday through Thursday away. Plan little treats throughout your work week, like indulging in a nice meal or meeting up with a friend for happy hour.6. Not dressing like yourself. When you dont look like yourself, its hard to feel like yourself. fruchtwein offices have some sort of dress code in place, or at the very least some form of general guidelines, but within that framework, express you personal style by accessorizing and wearing what you feel confident in. If youre spending the day dressed in clothes that dont feel like you, it can be much harder to feel truly comfortable.7. Focusing on how things used to be.If youused to have a really awesome boss or worked for a company that had a great vibe, you can end up spending a lot of time and energy playing the remember when game instead of focusing on what youre accomplishing now. Just as you can get caught up with comparing yourself to other people, you ca n get caught up comparing yourself to the past version of yourself. Just dont. Focus on present you. By embracing a learning culture and prioritizing training and development, businesses can help develop employees that keep up with nonstop technology and are competitive, competent, and engaged. But, while 70% of workers think training could help them cut back on distractions and get better at time management, 66% havent breathed a word of this to their managers. As far as methods employees are using for improvement 43% say they shut off their phone during the workday, 30% say they use music, meditation , or other relaxation techniques, and 26% say they fill time with simple tasks that dont require as much focus. These social media platforms make employees lose focus the mostFacebook overwhelmingly takes the cake here, with a whopping 65% of respondents saying that its their main source of distraction online. Study Open office plans cause us to socially withdraw
Study Open office plans cause us to socially withdrawStudy Open office plans cause us to socially withdrawOpen office plans get introduced as a seemingly democratic way to break down walls - both literal and metaphoric ones - between team members. Once all the walls become glass and the doors disappear, the thinking goes, teams will be naturally inspired to move and collaborate mora face-to-face.But a new study found that these wide open spaces can actually prompt the opposite reaction in us. When Harvard researchersEthan Bernstein and Stephen Turban observed an unnamed Fortune 500 company make the switch to an open office plan, they found that workers were retreating to their desks and the privacy of the internet. They began to email more and talk in person less.Rather than prompting increasingly vibrant face-to-face collaboration, open architecture appeared to trigger a natural human response to socially withdraw from officemates and interact instead over email and IM instant mes senger, the researchers wrote.Open office plans make us socially withdraw into the web to copeTurns out, removing spatial boundaries creates new social boundaries. The people analytics badges that employees wore tracked fewer face-to-face conversations. Once the walls went down, employees spent 72% less time interacting in person. Before the redesign, employees were meeting face-to-facefor about 5.8 hours per person a day. Now, that number had dropped to 1.7 hours per day.Instead of talking in person, workers were talking online. Participants collectively sent 56% more emails to other employees over 15 days. Virtual interaction was replacing personal face-time. The researchers found that IM message activity increased by 67%. Worse, these interactions were not helping the companys bottom-line. Executives reported that productivity had, in fact, declined once the redesign had occurred.Visual transparency forces us to create virtual walls to maintain personal boundaries. When everyone can see everyone, we get surveillance anxiety. This is not the first study to find an unintended side effect of open office plans. One study found that women feel more exposed when offices put durchschaubar glass and large undefined spaces everywhere. Thats the big downside of the open office plan when your desk can be seen from all angles, it can feel like judging eyes are watching us wherever we go.Many organizations transform their office architectures into open spaces with the intention of creating more face-to-face interaction and thus a more vibrant work environment. What they often get is an open expanse of proximal employees choosing to isolate themselves as best they can (e.g. by wearing large headphones) while appearing to be as busy as possible (since everyone can see them), the researcher cautioned. When office architecture makes everyone more observable or transparent, it can dampen face-to-face interaction, as employees find other strategies to preserve their privacy .
